Day 1

Madeira North coast hiking trail. Transfer from airport to Ponta Delgada, Monte Mar Palace Hotel.

Day 2

Ponta Delgada 11km, Hotel. This day you can choose a hike along the coast to the town of Sao Vicente or go higher up to the Lombada.

Day 3

Ponta Delgada-Arco de Sao Jorge 14km. The old stairs will take you up to the Lombadinha, land inwards by Boa Ventura are two beautiful waterfalls.  Down to almost sea level and  the coastal path to Arco de Sao Jorge. Will stay at our guesthouse Arco de Sao Jorge.

Day 4

Arco de Sao Jorge-Sao Jorge 9,5km Arco surrounded by mountains you will take the stairs thru the forest and cross Ribeira Funda,  option to explore the levada do Rei. Your stay will be at a camp with several tipi tents on the plateau high up on the coastline where you have a fabulous view over the northern Coast

Day 5

Sao Jorge-Santana 8,5km. Walking thru the town of Sao Jorge and afterwards the coastal trail to Calhau and to Hotel Quinta do Furao. Here you will stay the last three nights

Day 6

Hotel, option to walk Pico Ruivo 6km

Day 7

Hotel, option to walk levada Caldeirao Verde 13km. Levada’s are small irrigation canals which provide rain water from the forest all over Madeira. The walk leads along beautiful waterfalls between the mountains in the forest.

Day 8

Departure! But if your plane is leaving late, we can go for a hike at Ponta de Sao Lourenco. This is a beautiful hike at the far end on the peninsula of Madeira. Here you can see how the island was formed through the rough volcanic terrain.

Day one North Coast Hiking Trail

On arrival you will take a from airport to Ponta Delgada, Monte Mar Palace Hotel. Here your hiking holiday Madeira begins. The first day you can settle down and relax at the hotel. It has a magnificent view over the Atlantic ocean and the Laurissilva forest. Charge your battery for the coming days of hiking!

Day two

Ponta Delgada 11km Hotel. First hiking trip. This day you can choose a hike along the coast to the town of Sao Vicente or go higher up to the Lombada.

Day three

Onwards to the guesthouse North Coast Hiking Trail

Arco de Sao Jorge-Sao Jorge 9,5km Arco surrounded by mountains you will take the stairs thru the forest  and cross Ribeira Funda,  option to explore the levada do Rei.  Your stay will be at a camp with several tipi tents on the plateau high up on the coastline where you have a fabulous view over the northern Coast.

Sao Jorge-Santana 8,5km. Walking thru the town of Sao Jorge and afterwards the coastal trail to Calhau and to Hotel Quinta do Furao. Here you will stay the last three nights.

Day 6 North Coast Hiking Trail

Hotel, option to walk Pico Ruivo 6km. Pico Ruivo (1862m), the highest mountain on Madeira. Starting from Achada do Teixeira you will hike all the way up to the Pico Ruivo. The route has spectacular views, also when it’s cloudy. Because of the height you will walk mainly above the clouds.

Day 7 North Coast Hiking Trail

Hotel, option to walk levada Caldeirao Verde 13km. Levada’s are small irrigation canals which provide rain water from the forest all over Madeira. The walk leads along beautiful waterfalls between the mountains in the forest. In the evening you’ll enjoy dinner at local restaurant in Arco de Sao Jorge.
